The original courtyard space was primarily a passage way entry and serving no other purpose. My client wanted a functional space that could be used for entertaining and as a quiet retreat to enjoy the outdoors at this beautiful Northern New Mexico home. The home is traditional Spanish architecture and a design aim was to bring the inside out, respecting the existing interior architectural design . The free from lines blends best with traditional design elements. The natural stone water feature harmonizes with the landscape and adds a comforting sound. The selected plants are low water, the pebbles are permeable and efficient drip irrigation was installed resulting in an eco conscious landscape.
The Joan Grabel landscape design was installed by Scotts Irrigation and Landscaping.
The stone fountain was purchased and installed by Range West in Madrid, N.M.
